Semi-rigid Medical Thoracoscopy
Semi-rigid Medical thoracoscopy (pleuroscopy) is a minimally invasive procedure that allows access to and visualization of the pleural space using a flexible scope. It also allows for basic diagnostic (pleural fluid sampling and pleural biopsies) and therapeutic procedures (pleurodesis) to be performed safely.
The procedure is done under conscious sedation and local anaesthesia and is thus also referred to as Local Anaesthetic Thoracoscopy (LAT) as opposed to VATs (Video assisted thoracoscopy) which is normally done under general anaesthesia.
